Jonathan Melgaard · Detroit Lakes School Board
The best small-town schools in Minnesota.
Detroit Lakes gave me a world-class education in a town of nine thousand. I'm running for school board to make sure the next generation gets the same — or better.

leading and building educational programs
A school board isn't a teaching body. It's a governance body: budget, policy, oversight, and hiring a superintendent. I've spent fifteen years making complicated programs run well, on real budgets, with accountability. That's what I'd bring to a board facing hard decisions.
The challenge
Enrollment is declining, and it drives everything else — budget, staffing, how many sections we can offer.
The strategy
Be the district families choose. Protect what makes an education here distinctive.
The bar
Detroit Lakes should be the best small-town district in Minnesota. Not the best we can manage for our size — the best.
Detroit Lakes gave me a great deal. I'd like to give some of it back.
